Several decades ago, the Joslin Clinic in Boston developed the nation’s first Diabetic Education Protocol and taught diabetic patients how to eat, exercise, and take their medications. They also taught patients how to monitor their own condition and recognize the signs of early complications. Their efforts resulted in much healthier patients.
Research has confirmed that patients who receive diabetic education achieve better diabetic control, feel better, and have less of a chance of developing complications from diabetes. Diabetes is a condition greatly influenced by your “lifestyle.” Factors such as eating, exercise, medications, mood, and your general health status can affect your blood sugar levels. It is no mystery that achieving good sugars requires you to understand the effect that your lifestyle has on your diabetes.
